Contemporary Marble

[ "2019-01-17" ]

Marble has been prominent in interiors for centuries, with the Romans and Greeks choosing pure white marble for its unique pattern and aesthetic.

However, our new Surface collection evolves this marble trend, making it suitable for contemporary living spaces.

In previous years, this ancient building material has been typically used in kitchens, giving a clean, yet classic, look to the heart of the home.

The stone’s mineralised finish has now been transported from kitchens and into interiors across various marble accessories; from soft furnishings to photo frames, vases and trinkets.

Inspired by the trend, our AW17 collection Elysium replicated this timeless marbled effect, with the Lava design printed on to soft velvets. Lava’s velour finish is also found in Surface, making it perfect for statement upholstery in sofas, chairs and pouffes.

How colour has evolved the marble trend…

Velvet upholstery and bold colour combinations were the must-have trends of last year; and neither will be disappearing in 2019.

2018 saw dusky pinks, emerald greens and mustard taking centre stage when it came to fashion, as well as interiors. So, as part of our SS19 Surface collection, we have relaunched our statement Lava in a selection of contemporary, fashion-led shades.

The fabric is accompanied by three other designs, all inspired by the marble trend, possessing a distressed, mineralised texture.

The Woodrose and Teal colourways take on the Emerald and Dusky Pink colour combination that was seen last year. Instead of using the muted pink and aquamarine colours in plain Velour fabrics alone, the unique textures of the Surface collection keep the trend looking contemporary.

This textured finish is also seen in both Henna and Gilt colourways.

Gilt enhances the grey tones of the natural stone and pairs it with shades of ochre, giving it an updated edge. Whereas Henna offers a darker, spicier take on Pantone’s Colour of the Year, Living Coral.

No matter the colour, the Surface collection gives a contemporary feel to marble, offering a textured look to bold colours in any living space.
